Dental implants

The closest thing modern dentistry has to a natural tooth: A permanent, stable, natural-looking replacement that can last a lifetime with proper care.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post that is placed into the jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root. Once the implant has integrated with the bone (a process that takes a few months), a custom-made crown is attached on top, creating a replacement tooth that looks, feels, and functions like a natural one.

Unlike a bridge, an implant does not require any alteration to the neighbouring teeth. Unlike a denture, it is permanently fixed in place. The result is a restoration that most patients quickly forget is not their original tooth.

Is an implant right for you?

Dental implants are suitable for most adults who are missing one or more teeth and have adequate bone in the jaw to support the implant. We carry out a thorough assessment (including X-rays and a detailed examination) before recommending implant treatment, to ensure it is the right solution for your specific situation.

Factors such as general health, smoking, bone density, and gum health all influence suitability. Where bone grafting is required prior to implant placement, we will discuss this with you clearly, including the implications for treatment time and cost.

The implant process

Implant treatment takes place over several months to allow time for the process of the implant integrating with the surrounding bone. A typical treatment follows this sequence:

  1. Initial assessment and planning
  2. Implant placement under local anaesthetic
  3. Healing period (typically 3-6 months)
  4. Abutment placement
  5. Crown fitting and final adjustments

We walk you through each stage before treatment begins so you know exactly what to expect and when.
