Children's dentist
Gentle, patient dental care for children of all ages. We believe that a positive early experience makes an enormous difference to lifelong oral health.
Making dental visits positive from the start
Dr Yen and Dr Barratt both have extensive experience with young patients and love working with children. They know the way a child experiences their early dental visits shapes their attitude towards dental care for life, and they take that responsibility seriously.
We work at each child's pace. We explain what we are doing in the appropriate language, show them the instruments before we use them, and never proceed with anything until the child feels comfortable. We celebrate small wins and make every effort to ensure each visit ends on a positive note.
If your child is anxious or has had a difficult dental experience in the past, please let us know when you book. We are experienced in managing dental anxiety in younger patients and are happy to structure the appointment accordingly.
When should children first see a dentist?
We recommend bringing children in for their first visit around the time their first teeth appear, or by their first birthday at the latest. Early visits are about familiarisation as much as examination - getting used to the environment, the chair, and the dentist, so that dental care feels normal rather than frightening.
From age two to three, a regular six-monthly check-up is appropriate for most children. We will advise on the right schedule based on your child's individual dental development.
